Art Techniques – Drawing 2

The course of drawing develops the advanced drawing skills towards an independent and free depiction of complex spatial situation from imagination or some materials. It develops the imagination and ability to depict an image convincingly in perspective, depicting complex forms and details in the spatial context, mirroring, lighting. The course includes work with colours in drawing. The course of drawing is complemented by a combination of drawing and technical drawing. It gives practise in drawing techniques and some techniques of finalizing the drawing. The course is divided into three blocks: Drawing from observed space, drawing from image and schema, final work. The integral part of the course is home preparation, visits to exhibitions and study of sources.
In the study programmes “Architecture and Urban Design” the course is part of the courses on tools.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

  • Students will learn how aptly depict complex spatial architectural imaginations, delivered with aesthetic quality.
  • Students will learn how to depict a complex spatial situation, forms, or details from a given schema, technical drawing or oral assignment.
  • Students will learn to work with concept/thought/idea via drawing process, and how to understand it and develop it.
  • Students will orientate in various possibilities of drawing and finalizing techniques in order to attain the intended expression.
  • Students will familiarize themselves with the possibilities of combining drawing and technical drawing.
  • Students will familiarize themselves with colour drawing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course of drawing includes creative, observational, and practical components and monitors their intensification, complementation, directing and development of individual student abilities. The substance is to develop a dialogue between the drawer and drawing. Students will learn how to see and understand the results and potential of their own work, which will direct them forward. It is a comprehensive process, and it namely influences the skills, but also on perception, feeling, and the ability of expression, inner freedom and phantasy.
The centre of the course is regular work and correction, as well as following the cultural events, exhibitions, study of sources and discussions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To be awarded the credit: submit a collection of drawings from the classes, with representatives from all thematic blocks, including the final work and home assignment. The particular specification of all works for submission and their numbers will specified in the written assignment at the beginning of the semester.
Grading consists of quality of the submitted drawings, development during the semester, reflecting the engagement and originality.

Aims

The aim of the course is to learn how to draw complex spatial situations, forms, or details from imagination or from materials in a correct perspective and in quality drawing technique, black and white, or in colours. It is part of the aim to learn how to evoke the imagination via process of sketching, to understand it and develop; to specify and cultivate the represented phenomenon via drawing; to express the overall idea via drawing, and to emphasize it via suitable finalizing technique.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Two absences from the classes are tolerated; excuses and more absences in case of serious reasons are discussed with the teacher.
It is possible to compensate the absence by taking part in the parallel groups (if they are open), submission of drawings.
Upon the agreement with the teacher, the absences in the classroom can be compensated via online participation.
