Introduction to mechanical engineering

FAST-1W2Acad. year: 2021/2022

Signification and development of mechanical engineering. Basic manufacturing and economic concepts, quantitative and qualitative indices of manufacture, technical standardisation and its role.
Technical materials for mechanical manufacture, their properties, manufacture and use in practice. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys. Non-metallic materials in mechanical engineering. Rolled materials (kinds and shapes). Stress of machine components – principles for machine structure strength.
Parts of machines. Joints, connecting parts, fixed and flexible joints, moving parts, shafts, couplings, brakes, mechanical gears, bearings, lubrication of mechanical plants.
Through-flow parts. Piping and fittings, hydraulic elements, closures, boilers.

Aims

Teaching the students to read and create mechanical technical documentation. Making them acquainted with principal mechanical components, mechanical assemblies and systems. They learn basic mechanical materials used in mechanical and building production and their machining and joining. The main stress is laid on drive units, generators, compressors. Attention is given to anticorrosive protection.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.
