Market Economy

The Market Economy is based on knowledge of the principles of market economics and is designed to give students an overview of the most important findings and theories in the field of behavior of all economic entities that economic theory defines as the aggregate of households, firms and the state. This is the interpenetration and interlinking of knowledge, which are generally divided into two areas: microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The outputs of the course are knowledge in the area of ​​economic theory with an emphasis on market environment and the use of basic economic models. On this basis, students will be able to analyze real economic phenomena and propose possible solutions and measures to improve the situation and mitigate the negative impacts of economic phenomena from both microeconomic and macroeconomic.

Prerequisites: knowledge of economics acquiered on the secondary school level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course consists of two-hour lectures that have the explanation of basic principles, methodology of the discipline and practical mastery of the substance. Exercises encourage in particular practical mastery of the subject matter presented in lectures and also are focused on mastering arithmetic tasks.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Student will pass the seminars if he/she will score minimum of 15 points. The maximum is 30 points.
Evaluation of the seminars consists of three parts:
1. final test – it’s evaluated a maximum of 25 points, the minimum is 50%.
2. active attendance - maximum of 5 points.

Successful completion of a credit test on topics covered in seminars. Active participation in lectures and seminars. Form of examination: written test. The integrated knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics in principal connections is considered. Grading is awarded according to the Rules for Studies and Examination valid at BUT and reflects student’s performance.
The scale of the resulting classification:
(student may gain from exercise 30 points and max.70 points of the test, a total of 100 points)

A: 90-100 points
B: 80-89 points
C: 70-79 points
D: 60-69 points
E: 50-59 points
F: less than 50 points

Course curriculum

1. Úvod do předmětu a základní východiska - Vznik ekonomie a jejího předmětu. Základní ekonomické principy, jejich měření. Statky a výrobní faktory. Domácnosti a firmy. Ekonomický koloběh výrobních faktorů a statků, důchodů domácností a příjmů firem.
2. Chování spotřebitele a formování poptávky - Užitek a jeho měření. Optimum (rovnováha) spotřebitele a křivka poptávky za předpokladu přímé měřitelnosti užitku. Tržní poptávka. Zákon klesající poptávky.
3. Chování firmy na dokonale konkurenčním trhu - Účetní náklady a ekonomické náklady. Účetní zisk a ekonomický zisk. Dělení nákladů. Zisk jako rozdíl příjmů a nákladů. Křivka nabídky a bod uzavření firmy.
4. Tržní rovnováha a efektivnost - Tržní rovnováha a rovnovážná cena. Dosahování tržní rovnováhy. Stabilita tržní rovnováhy. Vyrovnání mezního užitku a mezních nákladů.
5. Chování firmy v podmínkách nedokonalé konkurence - Vznik nedokonalé konkurence, základní charakteristika tržních struktur: monopol, oligopol. monopolistická konkurence
6. Trh výrobních faktorů – Trh kapitálu, trh práce a trh půdy (poptávka na trhu úvěrového kapitálu, nabídka peněžního kapitálu, rovnováha na trhu peněžního kapitálu, nabídka práce, poptávka po práci, rovnováha na trhu práce).
7. Zásahy státu do cen - Formy zásahů státu na ochranu trhu. Cenový strop. Účinek spotřební daně na změnu ceny a množství statku. Subvence k ceně (cenová podlaha).
8. Agregátní veličiny - Agregátní nabídka, agregátní poptávka. Růst a pokles AD a AS, agregátní výdaje, sklon křivky AS, sklon křivky AD. Model AS-AD.
9. Měření výkonnosti ekonomiky - Ukazatele typu produkt a důchod. Nominální, reálný a potenciální HDP. Alternativní ukazatele životní úrovně.
10. Teorie peněz - Rovnováha na trhu peněz, peněžní multiplikátor. Inflace a její příčiny, druhy inflace.
11. Trh práce a rovnováha na trhu práce. Formy nezaměstnanosti. Teorie Phillipsovy křivky.
12. Teorie hospodářského cyklu a hospodářská politika státu. Fiskální politika – veřejné finance, státní rozpočet, vestavěné stabilizátory, diskrétní opatření, expanzivní a restriktivní fiskální politika.
13. Monetární politika. Nástroje a cíle monetární politiky, expanzivní a restriktivní monetární politika. Vnější obchodní a měnová politika, volný obchod a protekcionismus, měnové kurzy.

Aims

Účelem předmětu je osvojení a uspořádání základních znalostí z oblasti ekonomické teorie. Na základě seznámení se základními pojmy mikroekonomie a makroekonomie posluchači porozumí logice tržního procesu a působení tržních mechanizmů v každodenním životě. Hlavním cílem je analýza reálných jevů z tržního prostředí a při návrhu řešení uplatnit získané znalosti.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance in seminars will be checked, a student has to fulfil a 75% attendance in seminars.
Absence in seminars could be recompense with a special assignment or with a special exam test.
