Course curriculum

The course consists of two types of meetings: lectures and roundtables with guest speakers. The following 6 units form the core of the course:
1. Art market (the primary market, the secondary market, auctions);
2. Authentification;
3. Authorship and provenance;
4. Art Crime (fakes & forgery, looted art, black market);
5. Auction (preparation and the course);
6. Art Appraisal.

These lectures will be complemented by 6 roundtables with guest speakers:
1. Art appraisal;
2. Gallerists‘ View – a vist to the art gallery;
3. The view of the auction houses – a visit to the auction house (pre-auction exhibition and, ideally, the auction itself);
4. Investors‘ view – a visit to the art investment fund;
5. Artists‘ view – a visit of artist’s workroom; 6.
Collectors‘ View – roundtable with a collector.

The ultimate goal of such an approach is to analyse the relevant aspects of the art market from a broader perspective and make sure that students have sufficient theoretical background so that they can engage in discussion with an invited speaker better. The names of guests and their precise topics will be announced in the beginning of the semester.
