Course detail
Polymer Materials
FAST-CJ04Acad. year: 2013/2014
♦ The tuition renders a complex survey about plastics produce at home and abroad, briefly discusses the production of these materials and especially the properties and the utilization in building work. The stress is laid to new plastics with maximal length of life. Among others cellulose, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyesters, polytetrafluorethylen - teflon, products of PVC, polyamide, polystyrene will be discussed and epoxy resins, polyesters, polyurethane, modern acrylic polymers, polyacrilate and silicones as well.
The subject makes the student acquainted with the possibility of plastics added into cement mortars and concrete, but the main stress is laid to the rehabilitation of building structures, which is a t the time being a very actual problem in building industry.
The lessons are supplemented by laboratory assignments.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
♦
♦ o Describe in the general terms of physical chemistry and chemical background of polymer materials,
♦ o To understand in detail polymerization mechanisms, technology of polymerization in use and technology of production of polymer products,
♦ o Describe individual principles and possibilities for characterization of polymer materials
♦ o Analyse limits of polymer materials and possibilities of protection of other building materials via utilization of polymers and polymer coating. Use of polymers in the construction industry including additives other building material
Prerequisites
Co-requisites
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The content of the lectures is prepared in the digital form of presentations with the largest share of graphic details that will allow to closer understanding the objective issue. The content of exercise lectures is based on the digital presentation of task, which is then clearly undertaken by experiment and then student must compile and evaluate the results in the reports
