An overview of genres and styles of popular music - including knowledge of important soloists and groups - focusing on: rock, art-rock, disco, folk, folk-rock, funk, punk, rap, soul, and underground.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
- name and describe representatives and groups of folk and folk-rock music,
- describe and name the main directions of rock music and their representatives,
- define the nature of art-rock and punk music and important groups,
- explain the nature of soul music style,
- explain the reasons for the emergence and character of Czech and world underground,
- describe the nature of funk, disco and hip hop musical styles and explain their differences.

- Lectures consist of an explanation accompanied by the listening of music recordings and their analysis.
Participation in lectures is recommended.
