Learning outcomes of the course unit
The student is able to:
- describe the basic steps in the design process of integrated circuit,
- describe the basic properties of BJT's and MOSFET's and the way they affect the parameters of amplifiers,
- specify the causes of linear and nonlinear distortion of signal passing through the circuit,
- design and verify the basic building blocks of analog integrated circuits (current mirror, reference, transistor amplifier, power amplifier),
- design and verify basic parameters of the structure of the operational amplifier and OTA,
- describe basic linear and nonlinear characteristics of operational amplifiers,
- draw schematics of basic amplifiers employing operational amplifiers and to explain their operation,
- discuss advantages and drawbacks of modern active elements such as VFA, CFA, TIA, CCII, OTA,
- describe the basic principles of switched capacitors,
- describe the basic principles of switched current techniques,
- explain basic principles of nonlinear dynamical systems, chaotic phenomena, and Chua's oscillator,
- define and explain digitally controlled analog circuits,
- explain the methods of the operation of modern voltage references,
- design PTAT sources and band-gap reference sources.
