Original Abstract

The article describes a determination of stability of magnetorheological (MR) effect during long term operation. The operation carried out in a cus-tom design rheometer, which is built in a mechanical pulsator. The rheom-eter design allows measurement of the rheological properties of MR fluid and its exposure to a long-term loading simultaneously, without any ma-nipulation of the measured sample. The operation ran under conditions which correspond to real conditions in the automotive MR damper. The results of long term operation show that during the durability test an yield stress increased up to five times in off-state due to in-use-thickening (IUT). The same increase was identified in on-state. These results disprove a hy-pothesis that a measurable decreasing of MR effect due to the degradation of magnetic properties arises during the long term operation.
