Original Abstract

Control electronics for lens and other mechanical elements of optical tweezers is presented. Set of geared DC motors is employed as mechanical actuator allows precision manipulation with optically trapped micro-particles. The fully digitally controlled electronics with its optimised control algorithms reduces delays during movement of lens to requested positions. High-resolution position sensors inside DC motors and digital signal processing used for digital PID servo-loop improve dynamic range and precision of the lens positioning. All operations of the designed electronics are accessible remotely by a PC computer through Controller Area Network (CAN) serial bus. Resolution achieved by the micropositioning driven by geared DC motors is better than 1mm.
