Original Abstract

The aim of this work is to complete knowledges about the fatigue behaviour of an isothermaly heat treated nodular cast iron, so-called ADI. The nodular cast iron ranks to all important branches of engineering industry already. Recently, it starts to substitute casts of grey cast iron and steel as well, even in the event of cyclically loaded components e.g gears, crankshafts or half-time shafts [1,2]. During cycling, an irreversible process of mechanical properties happens. The fatigue fracture is initiated at an specific cycle count when the working stress is higher than the fatigue limit. For Wöhler´s curves and the fatigue limit determination is usually used a group of 12 to 15 specimens, which are removed from different places of a cast keel block. The fatigue limit of the material is influenced by many factors, which count defects as shrinkage porosity and impurities as well, which are formed during casting. For correct determination of mechanical properties, the direction and the place of removing the specimen from the keel block is important.
