Original Abstract

The main process of thermal decomposition of limestones can be described as the decomposition of calcium carbonate due to thermal stress. During this process, there are many influences that can affect the properties of the newly formed calcium oxide and, of course, also the properties of the final product - lime. This study aims to examine the different characteristics of the input material (geological age and origin, total porosity, chemical analysis, insoluble residue) and their effect on the properties of burnt lime. Four different burning temperatures were used for each sample. The microstructure of the lime was analysed by scanning electron microscopy and a lime reactivity test was performed. It was observed that the burning process of geologically younger limestone with higher porosity was faster even at lower temperatures, as well as the sintering process of samples studied in this paper.
