Original Abstract

This paper deals with a determination of freeze-thaw resistance of concrete and the evaluation is based on monitoring of three properties of concrete. Six concretes produced with identical components were prepared for the experiment. The concretes only differ in the amount of cement and plasticizing and air-entraining admixtures. The concretes were subjected to freezing and thawing cycles and their dynamic moduli of elasticity and flexural strengths were determined after 50 and 100 cycles. The moduli of elasticity were determined using the resonance and ultrasonic pulse velocity methods. The output of the paper is an evaluation of how the individual properties react to the damage to the internal structure of the concrete. It was found that the highest decrease occurred in flexural strength whereas the lowest decrease was observed in the case of the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity determined by the ultrasonic pulse velocity method.
