Original Abstract

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are microbial polyesters which are good alternative to petrochemical plastics. PHA are produced by many various bacteria, and they are completely biodegradable and biocompatible. We focused on new thermophilic producers of PHA using isolation. We designed an original isolation protocol leading to the isolation of PHA-accumulating bacteria from compost. The isolation protocol uses osmotic stress to selection PHA producing bacteria because PHA granules protected bacteria during osmotic stress. Compost and activated sludge are used as source of thermophilic producers
