Original Abstract

The construction and subsequent operation of buildings are among the main consumers of material and energy sources and contribute to environmental pollution. Therefore, sustainable building construction responds to the demands of sustainable development and brings a new approach to the design, implementation and operation of buildings to reduce negative environmental impacts. Environmental certification of buildings is closely related to sustainable production. It is an instrument of complex building evaluation targeted at reaching mutual comparability of buildings properties in the global context. Therefore, the presented paper presents individual types of environmental certifications used in the Czech Republic. First, the evaluation process and the main rated categories are described for each certification. Finally, the certifications are compared and the main differences are described. At the same time, the paper deals with the impact of environmental certification on operating costs.
