Original Abstract

This paper aims to demonstrate possibilities of acoustic emission as a hydraulic machinery diagnostics tool. Especially for exposing presence of ruptures or cracks in parts of the machine, assuming changes in acoustic signal of the part during its operation. Demonstration is based on series of simple measured experiments, which consist of monitoring the preloaded bolt placed in water stream inside of a pipe to simulate effect of crack size. Outputs are charts with effective values comparing spectrums of each configuration to judge the effects of parameter changes. The methodology of the acoustic emission can also be applied to study hydrodynamic cavitation and its acoustic exhibition.
