Original Abstract

A variety of engineering structures are composed of linear structural components connected by elastomers, because elastomers are commonly used materials for vibration isolation components due to their damping properties. Typical example of this component in automotive, which is also presented in this article, are elastomeric powertrain mounts used as a connection part in engine-vehicle structures. The elastomer parts of these components have highly complicated shape and analytical methods for computation of stiffness and damping properties cannot give sufficiently accurate results. This is the reason for using a finite-element method already in early stage of the product development. This article presents a one possible way for computational development process, where the material model of used elastomer is got from a small test component (cheaply producible) and then applied in real component (gearbox mount).
