Original Abstract

High purity glasses of 100-x(80GeS2-20In2S3)xPr2S3 (x=0-7), were prepared by direct synthesis from elements. The glasses were homogeneous of high optical transmissivity from visible to IR region (10 um). The absorption bands of Pr3+ ions were assigned to 3H4-1G4, 3H4-3F3(3F4), 3H4-3H6(3F2) and 3H4-3H5 f-f electron transitions. A strong luminescence band was found near 1.3 um, weaker one was observed in the region near 1.6 um. These luminescence bands can be assigned to 1G4-3H5 and 3F3-3H4 transitions of f-electrons of Pr3+, respectively.
