Original Abstract

The paper describes technical physical aspects of the recent disturbance, which occur in the transmission networks last year. Events on 25 th July and 3 rd August in the Czech republic and on 4 November in the UCTE have several common features: e.g. network weakness due to line outages, transient stability jeopardy, loss of synchronism prevention by distance protection operation and separation or division of network on asynchronous island. Analysis and detailed explanation of physical behavior of power system is useful for many reasons: e.g. for education and training, updating of defense plans, evaluation of control efficiency during extraordinary states of power system. So called network simulators are useful tools for that analysis. They enable reproduction of power system dynamic behavior. Examples of using of the MODES network simulator are presented in the paper.
