Original Abstract

Sealing of joints of structures subjected to climatic effects such as weathering is a very complicated and demanding process. To ensure proper function of the joints it is necessary to use a suitable sealant. For presented experimental measurements only polyurethane sealants that are intended for usage in exterior were selected. The selection of tested sealants was based on previous experiences as well as on some previous laboratory experiments. The aim of presented experiment was to compare cheap sealants and some high-priced sealants. Another criterion was that both groups of selected sealants have to be commercially available on the Czech market. The performed experiments involved verification of adhesive and cohesive sealant properties to the base material. A cement–bonded particleboard was chosen as the base. Even though the obtained results demonstrate that high quality sealants were selected, certain differences between cheap and expensive test specimens had appeared.
