Abstract

The equipment aims to measure peak and even mean power of particle beam in the LHC (Large Hadron Colider) in the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). Signal from pick-up sensor (one 20 ns pulse per particle bunch) is attenuated to the low-level signal which is processed by the analog peak-detector circuit. Detected signal is sampled and processed by programmable logic to the value of peak power of the particle beam. Measured data are transferred through VME interface to the central control system where the data can be used for evaluation of current state of acceleration and for intervention of other systems on the beam. The equipment is based on FPGA device from Spartan 3A family. The Peak detector was developed in cooperation with the Department of radio electronics (BUT) and the CERN organization.
