Original Abstract

Thin metallic films of many different forms are widely used for a surprisingly diverse range of applications in electronics. This paper summarizes some of the processes used and describes the electrical characteristics of the films produced. These include nickel-chromium utilized in the fabrication of resistor elements, tantalum alloys for film circuits and electrodeposited nickel for discrete resistors, or nickel-chromium deposited under carefully controlled conditions for networks, voltage dividers and binary or ladder networks and high precision resistors including a very high value laboratory standard.
