Original Abstract

A prediction of the fatigue crack growth curve in ferritic steel was made on the basis of experimentally determined curve for ferritic ductile iron assuming an exclusive role of graphite noduli. The analysis shows that possible shielding mechanisms induced by noduli lead to the global antishielding effect. Although neither interaction between individual shielding mechanisms nor the plasticity effects are considered, the predicted curve matches t This result can be extended to all types of ductile irons without considerable modification.
