Original Abstract

The use of light polarization for sensor design has been gaining popularity in recent years. The principle of operation of these sensors consists of the propagation of polarized light by birefringent optical fibers, which, thanks to their construction, keep the light in two perpendicular planes with different light propagation velocities. This paper describes the design of a polarization-based fiber optic sensor focused on acoustic pressure detection. Experimental verification of the sensor’s performance for the detection of acoustic pressure casued by explosions is studied.
