Original Abstract

Industrial biotechnologies are still struggling to gain a wider application and competitiveness over traditional oil-based industrial technologies. Therefore, it is essential that new biotechnological processes are developed that eliminate the shortcomings of existing industrial biotechnologies. The concept of "Next generation industrial biotechnology" (NGIB) deals with this idea of using extremophiles, in our case thermophiles to produce various products. In this study were analyzed potential of production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Specifically, the Caldimonas, Rubrobacter, Tepidimonas and Schlegelella genera were tested. Schlegelella and Tepidimonas appear to be promising PHA producers.
