Abstract

A computer program for modelling and predicting child growth, particularlyheight, in the form of an on-line application and package (growthfd) executablein R. The aim of the architectural design was to develop software that was botheasy to use and practical for paediatricians and suitable for the researchcommunity to perform batch analysis of large and diverse datasets. Therefore,the front-end was designed as a web-based application, while the computationalcore consists of scripts for the R environment. The R environment is widely used in the research community, so the core uses up-to-date packages according to the state-of-the-art and newly developed methods are also returned to the community in the form of R packages. The advantage of the web-basedinterface is that it is ready to use and does not require software installationon the user's computer, making the application available without much effort. A demonstration application is available at http://growth.sci.muni.cz
