Original Abstract

Introduction of a series of innovative strategies to control heat transfer including a new “dry casting” concept, which eliminates the need for water sprays, novel contact resistance sensors in the rolls, and a flexible liquid core detection system linked to the secondary cooling through an advanced Casting Simulation Interface. This interface is tasked to optimize sprays performance as a function of sensors data, advanced modelling and inspection combined in a neural-network to create an online control loop for quality improvement of cast products.
