Original Abstract

The presentation was performed online at TU Wien, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Institute of Spatial Planning on November 4, 2020. It was a part of the 9th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, section Spatial development in Central Europe. The presentation defined a research question - can different types of urban structures influence the quality of life of the local residents in different way? The presentation analysed the parameteres of the outdoor environment – of the courtyards/open spaces around the residential buildings. The questionnaire survey and census data were the sources for the analyse and comparison of closed urban blocks and prefab housing estates in Brno, Czech republic. The presentation showed important results of the research project entitled ‘The Importance of Open Space for Sustainable Urban Development’, GAČR 15-05237S. The project was funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR).
