Original Abstract

Biotechnical stabilization was described by A. Schoklitsch in his Der Wasserbau as soon as in 1930. The pictures accompanying our contribution come from this book. Designs of biotechnical stabilization placed in front of banks – offshore – fundamentally use “living” wood, especially Salix. These are cuttings, twigs, sticks, poles and woven patterns. Structures are designed simple, easily implementable, from local materials if possible and they protect only several tens of metres of the shore.
