Original Abstract

Permeabily of the surface layers of RC structure for gasses and liquids depends on the actual state of a porous structure and on the moisture content. Surface layers significantly effect durability of the RC structures. One of the recent diagnostic methods evaluating the actual state of the concrete surface layers is the structure permeability method for air. The method was theoretically developed by R. Torrent, who also assisted at manufacturing of an excellent device TPT (Torrent Permeability Tester [1]). The structure state of concrete is influenced by the course of hydration both in setting and hardening concrete. In this stage originate in concrete micro-cracks, which initiate development of cracks and failures. This unfavourable state can be reduced by addition of some polymeric fibres into fresh concrete. The constribution describes test results from polypropylene fibres application and their effects on the permeability of the concrete surface layers for air. The results of the experimental test are evaluated with criteria for properties of concrete from the durability viewpoint [2].
