Availability of Crossref Similarity Check for Plagiarism Screening

Brno University of Technology offers its staff the possibility to screen manuscripts before submission using the Similarity Check service. The tool, powered by iThenticate, compares documents against a vast database of scholarly texts to reliably identify overlaps. Interest in the service continues to grow, with dozens of checks processed each year.

Brno University of Technology is a member of Crossref, which not only provides DOI assignment but also grants access to the Similarity Check tool for assessing the originality of academic manuscripts. The service uses iThenticate, a system capable of comparing uploaded documents with an extensive collection of scientific articles, publications, and other scholarly materials.

The service is intended for BUT staff and is commonly used to verify manuscripts before they enter the peer-review process. In recent years, its usage has steadily increased, demonstrating its importance in supporting the preparation of high-quality academic work.
