Course detail

Design of Equipment for Process Industry

FSI-KSZAcad. year: 2023/2024

The course is concerned with ageing/live time management of process equipment loaded at operational conditions. The content of the ageing/live time system of damage process of materials is explained. Mathematical descriptions of material damage processes as fatigue of materials, creep at elevated temperatures and corrosion are presented. The allowable growth of defects found by non-destructive examination and assessment procedures of material resistance against brittle crack are explained. The creation procedure of the process equipment damage scenario and choice of independent variables and their statistical distribution needed for computation of failure probability and risk of process equipment essential accident are illustrated.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Basic knowledge from elasticity and strength of structures, mechanics, limit states and theory of materials.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Course-unit credit requirements: Active attendance at seminars. The exam has written and oral parts, students have to prove acquired theoretical and practical knowledge.
Active attendance at lessons and training is checked. The written report has to be done when training was missed. This report has to be produced for verification.

Aims

The course objective is for students to acquire theoretical knowledge, to have an idea of technical literature including foreign literature and to be able to apply it to the design of equipment.
Students will be able to apply knowledge acquired during the study. They realize the damage process of materials is possible to influence and what operational conditions are needed. They realize that received tools have to be continually developed. They will have overview of the extent and quality of input data for lifetime / ageing management systems.
