VUT launches new VaVIS application for recording R&D results
From October 1, 2025, Brno University of Technology will launch a new tool for recording and reporting research results into full operation. BUT is thus responding to current trends in research evaluation. The web application VaVIS will replace the existing “R&D Results” module in the Apollo system. The implementation was carried out by the university’s Center of Information Services (CIS). R&D Results at BUT – online seminar on October 7 at 1:00 PM will introduce the application and related topics.

After a thorough requirements analysis, it turned out that external applications could not cover the scope and complexity of the system the university needs. Therefore, it was decided that the development would be carried out internally by the Center of Information Services,” commented on the preparatory work Martin Weiter, Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, under whose remit the agenda falls.
In addition to CIS, the BUT Research Support Department and also a working group of more than twenty members composed of representatives of all faculties and university institutes of BUT were involved in the preparation and development.
What the VaVIS application offers users:
user-friendly interface, access via web interface, and higher speed,
integration not only with other parts of the BUT information system but also with external systems such as Web of Science, Scopus, or ORCID,
automatic display of available metrics and their use for quick analyses – for articles and papers contained in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, available metrics from these databases and their extensions InCites, JCR, and SciVal are displayed directly in the application; for relevant publications Nature Share is indicated, and for relevant papers in the IT field, evaluation in the CORE database is provided.
“The new application responds to current trends in research evaluation, such as the COARA initiative and especially the new Methodology for the Evaluation of Research Organizations (Methodology 2025+), which replaced Methodology 2017+ this June. All the mentioned topics related to the launch of the new VaVIS application will be part of the seminar R&D Results at BUT, to which we cordially invite all BUT employees,” added Zdeňka Pavlačková, Head of the Research Support Department.
