Space, Memory, Identity: FA BUT invites you to a doctoral conference

Invitation to the doctoral conference of specific research investigators at FA BUT in 2025, which will take place on 4 December 2025 from 13:00 in room A118, the small lecture hall. The conference will begin with keynote presentations and a subsequent discussion featuring two prominent figures in architectural discourse: Maria Topolčanská and Petra Hlaváčková.

Space, Memory, Identity: FA BUT invites you to a doctoral conference. | Author: FA BUT Archive

In the introductory lectures, Maria Topolčanská will present the possibilities of practising solidarity in architectural research, while Petra Hlaváčková will offer a feminist perspective through her lecture Silencing Gender: How to Reveal the Invisible in the History of Architecture, which will show how gender and sociological methods can expand the understanding of architectural history and contemporary practice.

The doctoral contributions reflect a wide spectrum of current research approaches at the Faculty of Architecture, BUT. They focus on memory, identity, the technological transformation of space, and new forms of collectivity:

  • Zuzana Ragulová will present new insights into the life and work of the Jewish architect Zoltán Egri.
  • David Vaculík examines the architectural and cultural dialogue between Europe and Japan through the EXPO world exhibitions.
  • Monika Přikrylová connects the architecture of digital platforms with the posthumanist thinking of Rosi Braidotti.
  • Kristina Richter Adamson analyses the ecosystem of oncology clinics and presents the concept of a virtual bed as a model for transforming hospital care.
  • Kateřina Singer and Marek Hlavička explore the Planýrka area as a case study of postcultural landscape and new forms of collectivity.

The conference brings together theoretical, historical, and experimental approaches and demonstrates how architecture can be used to reflect on care, memory, solidarity, and the transformation of the environment.

You are cordially invited.
