Forbes included Jana Musilová from BUT among Top Women in Science 2025 in Czech Republic

Forbes this year included Jana Musilová from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication BUT (FEEC BUT) among the Top Women in Science 2025. The prestigious selection highlights twenty-five interesting, inspirational and active female scientists across disciplines – from mathematics through physics, chemistry and robotics to biology, medicine, history and psychology. "This is not a ranking, but an effort to present women who bring new perspectives through their scientific work and push the boundaries of knowledge," states Forbes.

From curiosity to biomedicine

Scientific career was sparked by curiosity and the desire to ask questions. Already during her studies at FEEC, she joined the BioSys_BUT (CZ only) research group, where she continues to work today. There she seeks ways to connect biology with informatics and offer scientists tools that open new research possibilities.

Jana Musilová specializes in modeling biological processes. She converts complex cellular processes into computer models that allow scientists to simulate experiments "for practice." This saves time, money and the lives of laboratory animals. She recently developed the Augusta tool, which helps biologists and doctors efficiently test hypotheses and discover connections that might remain hidden in the laboratory.

What she enjoys most about her work is its diversity. "Science is incredibly colorful in this regard and you never get bored," says the young scientist. One day she works on algorithms, the next she consults with biologists about their experiments, and the third she explains results to people outside the field.

Awards and achievements

Being included among the Top Women in Science 2025 builds on a series of previous successes. She previously received the prestigious Brno Ph.D. Talent scholarship. With the mentioned tool, Augusta succeeded in the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science in the Czech Republic competition. On the Forbes website, you can view Jana's profile or the summary article about all twenty-five female scientists from the Forbes selection.

Forbes recognized Jana's ability to connect biology and informatics and transform complex questions into practical tools that advance research.
