EDU workshop will once again support development of pedagogical competencies at BUT

At Brno University of Technology, another run of the EDU Workshop – a course in teaching competencies – is starting. It is intended for all beginning lecturers, especially doctoral students, but also for more experienced teachers who want to take their teaching to the next level. The course is designed for those who are looking for inspiration, practical tips, and a space to share experiences with colleagues.

“We want to provide a space where lecturers can share experiences, develop their competencies, and look for new ways to achieve effective and inspiring teaching. The purpose of the EDU Workshop is to offer practical methods but also to open collegial discussions on the current challenges of higher education,” said course coordinator Martina Repková.

The course offers an interactive approach – instead of long lectures, participants can expect group work, practical demonstrations, and discussions on specific examples from practice. It also includes e-learning support with study materials and links that will make it easier for you to transfer the acquired knowledge into your own teaching. The course includes 44 hours of face to face lecturing.

What will the EDU Workshop bring to participants?

  • They will learn to plan and structure their teaching to engage students more.
  • They will discover modern and activating methods that also work in higher education.
  • They will improve their ability to communicate clearly and provide constructive feedback.
  • They will try out how to use technology and AI effectively in teaching.
  • They will gain tools for working with diverse student groups and for redesigning their own courses.

The lecturers, together with participants, will also focus on the current challenges of today’s higher education environment – from the changing expectations of Generation Z and the growing diversity of students to the new opportunities brought by artificial intelligence and digital tools. The goal is for participants to leave the course not only with new knowledge and skills but also with the enthusiasm to try new approaches in their teaching.

As one of the lecturers, Marek Lauermann, added: “The EDU Workshop is a unique opportunity to develop teaching skills, share experiences, and find new ways to teach in a modern, effective, and enthusiastic way. Join us and become part of a community of teachers who are moving teaching at BUT forward.”

The course runs from September 25 to December 11, 2025, every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Center for Education and Counseling, room 7.15 (located in the Faculty of Chemistry building at BUT).

The course coordinator is Martina Repková, a member of the working group of the Vice-Rector for Continuing Education and Quality, Mr. Vítězslav Máša.
