Information education at BUT

Being among the traditional librarian services, educating is also offered by most of BUT libraries. In the preceding years, (until 2007), information education of BUT libraries' users was limited to one-off excursions to libraries with a librarian's lecture on some of the topics of information literacy in the better case.

At some faculties, educational activities were linked with teaching with some of the topics included in the syllabi. Based on these activities, more intensive contacts were built between the librarians and teachers initiating further cooperation.

The content of such activities, however, did not meet the requirements of a modern service and an upgrade was needed. To this end, a working group was set up through an initiative by the BUT Central Library in 2006 to improve "librarian teaching". This resulted in an e-learning course for first-year students becoming an integral part of the librarian services offered at BUT.
