The paper introduces a review of computation models of hydrodynamic thrust bearings, that can be applied for analyses of the rotor dynamics of rotating machines. The bearing models cover steady state or transient state regimes of turbochargers and they focus on problems of turbocharger mechanical efficiency, lubricant mass flows thru bearings or tribology of bearing contact surfaces. Analytical solutions, solutions by in-house developed programs based on Finite Difference Method (FDM) or solutions by 3-dimensional models based on commercial software for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are compared and verified by technical experiments on real exhaust gas turbochargers.
