In recent decades, the possibility of using concrete surface treatments has been intensively studied. In this direction, treatment using silicate solutions is becoming more and more popular. The main reason is to prevent damage to concrete exposed to extreme conditions. Sodium, potassium and lithium silicates are mainly used. Nowadays, the share of produced lithium silicates intended for surface treatment of concrete is increasing significantly at the expense of sodium or potassium [1,2]. One of the main parameters according to which lithium silicates can be compared as surface treatments is water absorption according to EN 1062-3 "Paints and varnishes – Coating materials and systems of exterior masonry and concrete – Part 3: determination of liquid water permeability". However, it was necessary to modify the procedure from this standard to emphasize all the differences between the individual coating recipes. Therefore, the goal was to optimize this procedure.
