d) Explain the developments of economic integration in Europe (the Treaty of Rome and the Maastricht Treaty)

Prerekvizity

This course assumes prior knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics at the bachelor level.

Způsob a kritéria hodnocení

Grades will be based on problem sets and written pair assignment and its presentation (20%), essay (20%), final exam (60%). The final exam will be closed book and will be comprehensive.

Osnovy výuky

Předmět je zaměřen na charakteristiky a vývojové tendence současné světové ekonomiky s důrazem na postavení Evropské unie v rámci světového hospodářství. Součástí předmětu je definování subjektů světové ekonomiky, forem vztahů, rozdělení světové ekonomiky na regionální obchodní uskupení, historie evropské integrace a současné postavení EU ve světovém hospodářství.
Topics lectures are as follows:
1. The Global Business Environment and Regional Trading Blocs
2. Europe at the end of world war two, and the appearance of the idea of united Europe
3. The fundamental treaties in the European construction and the institutions of the European Union
4. The vertical integration. From the free exchange area to the political union
5. The custom union. The static and dynamic effects of a custom union
6. The common market. The four freedoms of movement
7. The Single Market. The policies of the Single market
8. The Economic and Monetary Union. The construction of the monetary Europe
9. The Eurozone in crisis. How to prevent a repetition of the crisis?
10. The relations of the EU with the rest of the world. Foreign trade of the European Union.
11. The Greening of European Business: Environmental Policies and Management
12. Euro currency: Implications for corporate strategies
13. European Business: Competing in the Global Marketplace

Učební cíle

a) To provide students a knowledge and understanding of the governance and business policies of the European Union,
b) To describe students an international business context, in order to further and understanding of the European business environment
c) To show students the impact of EU policies on the European business environment and on corporate strategies developed in response to these policies.

Vymezení kontrolované výuky a způsob jejího provádění a formy nahrazování zameškané výuky

Nutná účast na výuce a prostudování literatury, na níž je předmet vystaven. Kontrola je v kompetenci vyučujícího.
