The first seven graduates of the Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Environmental Engineering programmes have completed their three-semester studies designed for managers and those interested in civil engineering, the use of modern technologies, sustainable construction and environmental protection, as well as energy management and material recycling.
Graduates received an internationally recognised micro-certificate for each module (semester), with the entire programme culminating in the MSc degree. “The Faculty of Civil Engineering aims to help professionals expand and deepen their knowledge of modern trends in the field. One of the reasons for accrediting these programmes is the ongoing shortage of experts in the construction industry. They are therefore primarily intended for professionals who have formal education in another field or who wish to gain an overview of new technologies, materials, or current legislation in the sector,” said Professor Rostislav Drochytka, guarantor of both MSc programmes at FAST BUT.Participants of the first run of the MSc educational programmes at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT particularly appreciated the flexibility of the teaching, its practical focus, and the option to choose courses relevant to their professional work. “I chose the MSc programme at FAST BUT to deepen my knowledge of construction elements and materials. During my studies, I encountered many valuable practical insights from lecturers, as well as essential theoretical knowledge applicable in practice. Given the schedule, it is possible to complete the programme alongside full-time employment,” summarised this year’s graduate Denis Buliak, who works in real estate development.
Graduates take away not only new knowledge but above all the ability to make better decisions, manage projects, and communicate with technical specialists. The Master of Science in Civil Engineering programme is designed to provide missing technical context to professionals from non-construction backgrounds and enable them to navigate construction processes, legislation, and modern technologies more efficiently. The combination of technical, economic, and legal topics reflects current market demand for professionals who understand the entire lifecycle of a building and can connect individual roles within a project.
The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering programme updates participants’ knowledge in sustainable construction and the environmental impact of buildings, modern eco-friendly materials, water management, green building design, energy systems, waste recycling and disposal, and solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.
A major advantage of these programmes is their immediate applicability in practice – students apply newly acquired knowledge directly in their jobs during their studies. Graduates gain not only the MSc degree, but above all a real competitive advantage in the labour market and broader career opportunities – both technical and managerial.
