FFA BUT Summer Schools offer a creative way to spend part of the summer. Participants can explore artistic processes, develop their creative skills, and meet inspiring people. FaVU Summer Schools are open to the general public — to beginners with a passion for art, as well as to those considering future studies at an art school, who can use the summer school to get a feel for the FaVU environment and as part of their preparation for entrance examinations.
The summer school is open to both beginners and more advanced participants with an interest in sustainable design and fashion. During the course, participants will be introduced to the concept of the circular economy in relation to design — specifically exploring upcycling as a pathway to environmentally sustainable design. Lecturer Terezie Krísová will share her practical experience, including guidance on where and how to source waste materials for design projects. The practical component will focus on creative work with materials, pattern making, structural solutions, and the production process itself. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to respond to the properties of a given material and to understand the relationship between design, construction, and the finished object. Participants will design and create their own original product — such as an accessory like a bag or handbag — made from recycled advertising banners.
The aim of the summer school is to familiarise participants with the process of bringing a designed product to life and to allow them to test structural principles and the functionality of an object in practice. The skills gained can be applied in further studies, independent creative work, and future professional development in the field of design. An integral part of the course is the cultivation of sustainable and circular thinking about design.
