Brno University of Technology (BUT) will host the annual meeting of CESAER, the prestigious network of European science and technology universities, from 22 to 24 October 2025. The event will also include the 39th General Assembly of the network’s members. The main theme of the meeting will be international cooperation for a sustainable future. This was decided by the network’s Board at the last General Assembly in October 2024 in Glasgow.

CESAER is a European network of leading universities with a strong scientific and technological profile, headquartered in Leuven, Belgium. It currently comprises 55 member universities, including BUT. The members promote excellence in higher education, training, research, and innovation, focusing on the development of a knowledge society with a sustainable future and on strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through science and technology.

“I am very pleased that our application was successful and that we have the opportunity to organize this important event. We expect the participation of 150 representatives of leading European technical universities, among whom a number of timely topics resonate, such as sustainability and the promotion of STEM studies,” said BUT Rector Ladislav Janíček in connection with the decision.

BUT already welcomed representatives of CESAER in April 2024, when it hosted in Brno a meeting of the Education and Teaching Task Force. The agenda included support for technical education, the roles and governance models of European university alliances, proposals for greater student involvement in the association’s activities, and discussions on aspects of doctoral education.

The most recent annual meeting together with the 38th General Assembly of CESAER was organized by the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in mid-October 2024. The main theme of that meeting was innovation.
