Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain new knowledge, understanding and knowledge in the following areas:

1st Students will be able to apply theoretical knowledge obtained in other subjects in the
practical field of wastewater treatment technologies;
2nd Students will learn the use of chemical, physical-chemical, physical and
biological processes for wastewater treatment;
3rd Students will gain knowledge and insights that are essential to understanding the basic
processes that take place in the biological and chemical wastewater treatment;
4th Students will gain knowledge that are prerequisites needed to use both in science and in
engineering practice;
5th Students will understand the problems of the natural water cycle and each cycle of water
use in human activities.

Prerequisites

Knowledge from courses: Hydrochemistry, Analytical chemistry, Chemical engineering, Technology of drinking water treatment,Practical training on water treatment technology I and II, Technology of waste water treatment.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded credit is awarded on the basis of interim activities (preparation of a written report and presentation on a given topic) and a written test at the end of the semester.

Aims

Provide an overview of the integrated approach (collecting system, čiastiareň wastewater treatment plant and receiving water) and means (dynamic simulation programs) for treatment of waste water, of decentralized system of wastewater collection and treatment, on special methods of treatrment and intensification (combined suspended and attached biomass, bioreactors with membrane separation of sludge), on control and management of processes, on methods of micropollutants removal , on specifics and special methods of industrial waste water tratment (membrane separation, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs)), on procedures to minimize the production of sewage sludge and on related legislation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is recommended, but not monitored. An integral part of teaching and combined form of teaching is a e-learning tutorial course, divided into blocks, within which are available to students learning support including electronic textbooks, presentations, lectures, and other complementary materials. For students in combined form of study are organized consultations to subject matter. Consultations are also provided to full-time students on request.
