Original Abstract

The paper is focused on numerical analysis of progress of failure that occurs in structures made of quasi-brittle cement-based materials. The goal of the study is to verify experimentally recorded data obtained from loading tests performed on plain concrete blocks extracted from standard beam-shaped testing specimens. The tested specimens are taken from sets prepared from cementitious composites with different aggregate size. The test configuration is similar to the lateral tensile test - the compressive load is introduced to the specimen through a narrow steel block, which results in the concentration of lateral tension stress splitting the specimen perpendicularly to the imposed load.
