Original Abstract

A computer controlled device for spray deposition of thin organic films was constructed and tested. Stable temperature control with less than +-1C noise was achieved without applying a software smoothing and filtration. The temperature control unit provides a substrate temperature gradient of about 1C/mm. Spray deposition of poly[2-methoxy-5-(3',7'-dimethyloctyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MDMO-PPV) on a glass substrate, kept in the temperature gradient was carried out. Sprayed MDMO-PPV material trends to crosslinking and a formation of voids between the network fibers, which is a temperature dependent effect. Increasing the temperature reduces the void size and the covered part of the substrate increases.
