Original Abstract

Operating aspects of heat exchangers with flue gas being the hot stream process fluid are discussed. Flue gas contains high amounts of pollutants that stick to heat exchange surfaces. Formed layers tend to significantly lower equipment heat duty, increase pressure drop and cause secondary heat surface corrosion. Such problems as well as various methods for fouling reduction are clearly illustrated through industrial examples and suitability of different kinds of heat exchangers is discussed.
