Original Abstract

Myocardial ischemia is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in Western countries. Various animal models have been introduced in order to study phenomena related to this subject, such as myocardial infarction, preconditioning, postconditioning, etc. In our laboratory, we attempt to find tools for detection of very early stages of myocardial ischemia from electrophysiological data (electrogram, monophasic action potential recording) obtained in isolated heart. This phenomenon is intensively studied in many laboratories; however there is a lack of information about response of the heart stained with VSD to such stimulus. Aim of this study was to verify our model of preconditioning of rabbit isolated heart for later use in studying ischemic changes from action potentials recorded by optical method.
