Original Abstract

At present, the environment in foundries is contaminated by dangerous toxic compounds released during casting from molding mixture based on resin binders. The preliminary experiments with natural polymer exhibited suitable strengths. Very important is the possibility of recycling of the molding material containing water-soluble or water-swelling proteins. Bonding is accomplished by dehydrating the wet sand mixture. No chemical reaction between the biopolymer and sand takes place. The biopolymer forms bonds as water is removed from the core to build up a crystalline structure.
