Original Abstract

Electrocatalysts based on manganese dioxide doped by bivalent metal cations were prepared by reduction of permanganate in presence of carbon black. Their catalytic activity for H2O2 decomposition was high. The electroreduction of oxygen in Teflon bonded catalytic electrodes was accompanied by the ability to absorb or deliver high charge in short time interval. It requires a larger amount of the catalyst of insertion type. It was called as "bifunctional action" or "flywheel principle" and is explained as hydrogen insertion and/or desorption into the manganese oxide electrodes.
