Original Abstract

Equilibrium adsorption of Cu2+ ions from their solutions by partially soluble humic acids (HA) has been studied. HA were obtained from South-Moravia lignite by means of alkaline extraction. Total acidity of HA, determined on the basis of conductometric titration, was used in mathematical description of process kinetics and equilibrium. Adsorbed amount of Cu2+ ions was calculated from their concentration decay in solution, which was measured spectrophotometrically. Multistep mechanism was proposed and used in description of equilibrium and kinetic data. Ideas underlying Langmuir adsorption theory were applied in this analysis. Dependence of adsorption coefficients and apparent rate constants on pH was discussed. FT-IR spectroscopy was used for characterization of the products.
